Purpose of the test
This test provides a comprehensive analysis of the individual fatty acid profile via a single blood sample, analyzing 26 distinct fatty acids. These include saturated fatty acids (SFAs), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). This extended fatty acid profile enables the precise calculation of several critical health biomarkers, such as the omega-3 index, the omega-6/omega-3 ratio, the AA/EPA ratio, and indices for trans fatty acids and omega-9 levels. All these parameters are calculated from a dried blood spot collected onto filter paper treated with a fatty acid-stabilizing agent.
Technical details
1. Repeatability
To assess the repeatability of our test method, samples were measured multiple times under identical conditions. The results demonstrated consistent performance across all replicates, with variations ranging from 1.15 % to 10.28 %. This range reflects the inherent variability within the measurement process, confirming that the method exhibits reliable repeatability under controlled conditions. The observed variation indicates a high level of precision, supporting the robustness of our testing approach for fatty acid composition analysis.
2. Reproducibility
The reproducibility of omega-3 index measurements was assessed by performing 6 independent measurements on 12 samples. A coefficient of variability (%CV) was calculated to be 9,97 %, reflecting the high level of precision and repeatability of our testing approach.
3. Stability
To assess the stability of the omega-3, a 28-day stability test was conducted. The results demonstrated that the omega-3 index remained stable at room temperature for up to 24 days, with variability not exceeding the acceptable limit of 25% (Figure 1).
